The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) provides training and support to SAS doctors (specialists, associate specialists and specialist doctors). A BMJ investigation by Wilkinson and colleagues shows that thousands of such doctors in the NHS, particularly international medical graduates from ethnic minorities, face insecure contracts, limited access to training and career progression [original content]. The RCP has issued guidance for doctors, training specialists and SAS careers recommending a transfer to a nationally agreed SAS contract after two years working in the same specialty in the same trust[original content]. It's about access to training, supervision and a clear career path[original content]. The RCP is the first Royal College of Medicine to support the #SASsix campaign for a trainer for every new SAS doctor[original content][1]. RCP offers an annual SAS Leadership Program with hands-on workshops led by experienced faculty for leadership and career development[1]. The program is approved for 6 CPD credits per day and the RCP provides funded places for members[1]. The new RCP guidance includes the SAS charter, job plans, portfolio path (former CESR), leadership roles and autonomous practice[4].
