The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), the state's largest employer with more than 10,000 employees, operates seven hospitals, dozens of clinics and over 200 telehealth sites.[1] A ransomware attack on Wednesday, February 19 affected IT systems, including EPIC's electronic health records, causing them to shut down.[1][2][3] All clinics in the state will remain closed on Monday 23 February and Tuesday 24 February, with elective surgeries and procedures canceled and appointments rescheduled where possible.[1][2][3] Hospitals and emergency departments in Jackson, Grenada, Madison County and Holmes County remain open using paper emergency procedures.[1][3] UMMC works with the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and cyber experts to restore systems.[1][2][3] Phone and email systems are down, but the dialysis clinic at Jackson Medical Mall is operating normally.[2][3] Mississippi MED-COM is affected, but redundancies ensure uninterrupted patient transfers.[2]
