The study investigated the views of 30 program directors (PDs) of restorative dentistry in Saudi Arabia on the selection of candidates for the Saudi Board of Restorative Dentistry (SBRD) program through a validated questionnaire with 30 questions in seven areas. PDs' highest preferences were working as clients in services, skills and reputation during electives, and dressing well in interviews. Less important were electives abroad, multiple letters of recommendation, and participation on the Dean's Honor Roll. Interview was the most popular area (4.04 ± 0.78), followed by service and electives (4.01 ± 0.47), with referrals scoring the lowest (3.41 ± 0.77). Differences by PD variables such as gender, years of experience, or geographic location were not statistically significant, except for the interview domain (p = 0.015), where more experienced PDs relied more on interviews compared to new PDs. PDs mainly preferred interviews, service and electives when selecting candidates. The results should be interpreted with caution due to the small sample size and limited statistical power.
