The American Academy of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) withdrew from the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) due to concerns about scientific integrity.[1] Recent changes in ACIP prompted ACOG to withdraw as a liaison organization.[1] In a press release, ACOG cited a number that signals problems with the scientific approach.[1] ACIP, appointed by the US Secretary of Health, voted eight to three on December 5, 2025, to withdraw the recommendation that all newborns be vaccinated against hepatitis B.[2] The new recommendation introduces individual decision-making after consultation with a doctor for mothers with a negative test, while unvaccinated children should wait at least two months for the first dose.[2] ACIP members are mostly personalities criticized for their lack of expertise and a skeptical attitude towards vaccination.[2] American Academy of Pediatrics President Susan J. Kressly called the change irresponsible because it could lead to more hepatitis B infections in infants.[2]
