The European Commission warns that these diseases cost the European economy 282 billion euros annually. The main goal of European plans is to reduce the number of deaths from cardiovascular diseases by 25 percent by 2035. Key measures include increasing the number of preventive checks for cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure, especially for the elderly. Experts emphasize that a generation of people is moving through life with earlier and more severe cardiovascular events.
