The Heart Association projects that six in ten women will develop heart disease or stroke by 2050. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death in women and their incidence is expected to increase with the aging of the population. Leading health experts warn that without quick action, the number of cardiovascular diseases will increase by 90 percent by 2050. The European Commission warns that these diseases cost the European economy 282 billion euros annually. The main goal of European plans is to reduce the number of deaths from cardiovascular diseases by 25 percent by 2035. Key measures include increasing the number of preventive checks for cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure, especially for the elderly. Experts emphasize that a generation of people is moving through life with earlier and more severe cardiovascular events.
