Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) met with Surgeon General nominee Casey Means, who wanted to discuss chronic disease, but Cassidy focused on her views on vaccines.[1] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has changed a statement on its website that previously claimed that vaccines do not cause autism, and explicitly mentions Senator Cassidy.[1] Cassidy, who voted to confirm HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. despite vaccine controversies, he supported vaccines and stated that life is lived forward and people need to be reassured of their safety.[1] He agreed with Kennedy that the CDC would not change its statements that vaccines do not cause autism.[1] HHS said the change was a routine update consistent with transparency and science because the studies could not definitively rule out a possible link.[1] Other Republicans such as Senators Susan Collins and John Barrasso have expressed support for vaccines and do not believe they cause autism.[1] Cassidy had previously requested a postponement of the CDC's vaccine advisory committee meeting due to turbulence and member turnover.[2]
