The study examined fibrous alopecia in pattern distribution (FAPD) in 46 Hispanic men from eight dermatology centers in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru between 2015 and 2022. The average age of the patients was 39 years, with onset of the disease between the ages of 20 and 63. A family history of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) was present in 85% of patients. FAPD most often manifested as a male pattern of hair loss (65% of cases) with a symmetrical distribution. Trichoscopic examination revealed perifollicular desquamation in 96% of patients, while histological examination revealed concentric perifollicular lamellar fibrosis in all patients (100%). An initial clinical diagnosis of FAPD was made in only 13% of patients, with androgenetic alopecia being the primary suspicion in 56.5%. The results suggest that the age of onset of FAPD is earlier in Latin American men compared to European and North American men.
