A meta-analysis examined the association between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the incidence of various cancers based on observational studies published through July 2025. The research found that GERD was significantly associated with an increased risk of lung cancer (1.33-fold higher risk), laryngeal cancer (1.75-fold higher), pancreatic cancer (1.30-fold higher), and esophageal cancer (1.70-fold higher). In contrast, no significant association was found between GERD and colorectal cancer. The authors conclude that GERD is associated with an increased incidence of several types of cancer. According to the study, these findings are important for the clinical care of patients with GERD, especially in the prevention of cancer and early detection of the disease.
