Researchers have found that direct-to-consumer gut microbiota tests yield significantly different results even when analyzing the same stool sample.[1] They sent identical stool samples via 21 home test kits to seven anonymous companies.[1] In one case, a split test of the same sample showed high candida on the first test and normal on the second.[1] Similarly, high levels of Acromonium, Klebsiella, and Pseudomonas were high in one test and normal in the other.[1] Another difference was in Zulin, which was normal on one test and high on the other.[1] Using different test kits on the same sample leads to different microbiome results.[3] These differences indicate the inaccuracy of many current test kits.[3]
