On February 25, 2026, the American Heart Association released a new scientific report warning that by 2050, approximately 60% of women in the US will have some type of cardiovascular disease.[1][3] The main factors that will trigger this disease include high blood pressure (which almost 60% of women will have), obesity (more than 60% of women) and diabetes (more than 25% of women).[3] The report highlights a particularly troubling trend – nearly one in three women between the ages of 22 and 44 will have some type of cardiovascular disease, a significant increase compared to today.[2] Projected diseases include heart disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and strokes.[1] The report also warns that nearly 32% of girls between the ages of 2 and 19 may be obese by 2050.[1] Research shows different trends among different groups of women—for example, more than 70% of black women will have high blood pressure and more than 71% will be obese.[3]
