The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced recommendations for the composition of influenza vaccines for the 2026-2027 season in the Northern Hemisphere. The recommendations are based on a 4-day consultation that examined global influenza surveillance data. These recommendations serve to adapt vaccines to the current virus strains circulating in the region. WHO issues such recommendations each year separately for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. In Slovakia, for the 2025/2026 season, it is switching to trivalent vaccines protecting against H1N1, H3N2 and B/Victoria strains.[1] Vaccination is recommended from 6 months of age, especially for risk groups such as seniors, pregnant women and small children.[1][2] Vaccines are relatively safe, with minimal reported serious cases.[5]
