Author Michael Alvear analyzed six months of Reddit discussions about home ketamine therapy. The findings alarmed him. Ketamine for telehealth, he says, has crossed the line from innovation to abdication of care. According to respected studies, ketamine helps up to three quarters of patients with depression. There remain 25 percent of patients who are not helped. In one case, a doctor injected 50 milligrams of ketamine. Yale University expert John Krystal said there is a risk of extremely distressing experiences during treatment, including loss of thought control and changes in sensory perception. These experiences can be potentially traumatic.
