Michael F Sudlow was a respiratory physician who became one of the leading experts on lung physiology in Britain[1]. After completing his medical degree at St Thomas' Hospital, London in 1964, he worked in various positions until moving to Imperial College London in 1968, where he joined a team investigating airflow in the respiratory tract using mathematical modeling and engineering methods[1]. In 1972, he obtained a position as a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and later became a consultant in respiratory medicine[1]. During his career, he contributed to the introduction of flexible bronchoscopy in Edinburgh in the late 1970s and served as a World Health Organization expert on respiratory complications following the Bhopal disaster in 1984[1]. He actively participated in postgraduate medical education and worked as a medical expert on panels of disability tribunals[1]. He completely retired from medical practice at the age of 75[1].
