The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has withdrawn from the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) over changes that undermine scientific integrity and evidence-based vaccine policy. US Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. he fired all 17 ACIP members, 13 of whom were appointed in 2024. He did so to restore public confidence in vaccine science and eliminate conflicts of interest. Jay Bhattacharya has been appointed as the CDC's interim director. Some medical organizations, such as the IDSA and the AMA, have called these changes unfounded and harmful to public health. In June 2025, the new ACIP removed the recommendation for a universal dose of hepatitis B vaccine at birth. The next ACIP meeting is scheduled for June 25, 2025, to vote on vaccine recommendations for COVID-19, HPV, influenza, meningitis, and RSV. Martin Kulldorff left ACIP for a new role at HHS and was replaced by Dr. Kirk Milhoan.
