The TrEat study investigated whether introducing nuts to peanut-allergic children is safer in a supervised doctor's office setting or gradually at home. The results showed that the introduction of nuts all at once in the clinic was not better than the gradual introduction in the home environment. Exposure to multiple nuts in the clinic resulted in 18.9% of children developing a nut allergy. The study confirmed that early and regular consumption of common allergens such as peanuts and eggs is an effective strategy for allergy prevention. The findings suggest that parents can safely introduce nuts to their children at home without the need for clinical supervision. This information is important for families with children who are allergic to peanuts and are considering introducing other types of nuts.
