The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is beginning to phase out the Anthropic Claude AI system from use by federal agencies. The decision follows a directive from President Donald Trump, which ordered an immediate halt to the use of Anthropic technology in all federal agencies with a six-month phase-out period. HHS Deputy Chief AI Officer Arman Sharma informed staff via email that the agency will disable the enterprise version of Claude. Usage history will be maintained and communication is expected for all employees in the coming week. HHS rolled out Claude to all employees in December as part of GSA's OneGov strategy, where Anthropic offered the platform at a discounted price of $1 per agency per year. The General Services Administration and the State Department immediately took similar steps.
