MPs have written to Health Secretary Wes Streeting to stop the "forced merger" between the two patient safety bodies. The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Patient Safety says the Health Services Safety Investigation Body (HSSIB) should remain separate. The HSSIB should not become part of the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The APPG emphasizes the need to ensure evidence-based safety recommendations are followed and implemented. These recommendations gain credibility through their independence, which should not be undermined. Former Tory health secretary Jeremy Hunt said the APPG supported simplifying the patient safety environment. According to Hunt, this environment has become too diffuse and complicated.
