The study assessed academic stressors and coping strategies in MBBS students and interns at a tertiary medical institute using the MSSQ and the Brigade Questionnaire. Stress severity differed significantly between domains (χ² = 364.60, p < 0.001), with academic stress having the largest proportion of high and severe stress. Problem-focused coping had the highest mean scores, but coping strategies did not differ significantly between academic years. Weak positive correlations were observed between overall stress level and problem-focused coping (ρ = 0.232), emotion-focused coping (ρ = 0.266), and avoidant coping (ρ = 0.277), all with p < 0.001. Academic stress showed significant variations especially among final year students. Coping patterns were relatively stable across the study, with higher stress being associated with an overall increased use of coping strategies. The findings serve as a basis for future research and targeted interventions against academic stress.
