Alexander Graeme Yule was born in Aberdeen and moved to Cardiff as a child. He studied at the University of Wales College of Medicine, qualifying in 1988. He has served as team doctor for Crosskeys RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons rugby clubs, but supports Scotland in international matches. He trained as a GP at Risca in the Sirhowy Valley during the miners' strike and deindustrialisation in South Wales. He has advocated for disadvantaged groups throughout his career and has run a substance abuse clinic for over 20 years. He represented general practice in mental health networks. He has recently expanded the work into health inclusion services for asylum seekers in South Wales. He led a neighborhood care network.
