Patients undergoing surgery for degenerative lumbar spine disease had worse outcomes when they received anticoagulants as part of the procedure. This was shown by the results of a single-center study presented at a meeting in New Orleans. The study noted a number of adverse outcomes in patients treated with blood thinners. Anticoagulants can thus do more harm than good during spine surgery.
