For children and adolescents, the method of nicotine exposure is changing according to current trends, such as nicotine liquids for electronic cigarettes or nicotine pouches.[1][4] A small child can be poisoned by a small amount of nicotine from a liquid or a large dose from a nicotine bag that he puts in his mouth for concentration or performance.[1] Symptoms of acute poisoning appear within 15 minutes, later symptoms within 30 minutes.[1] No form of tobacco or nicotine is harmless, and children do not distinguish addiction risk from health risk or "less harmful" from "harmless".[1] Childhood exposure to nicotine during adolescence affects brain development, particularly attention and learning.[3] In one school, the use of nicotine sachets decreased after the signs of poisoning and first aid procedures were posted on bulletin boards and first aid was practiced.[1] Nicotine is mainly absorbed through the oral mucosa, so gastric lavage is not always effective.[1]
