A new study examined the impact of Major League Baseball's pitch clock on the injury risk of top pitchers. Following the implementation of the rule in 2023, the percentage of injured pitchers decreased from 50.4% pre-implementation (2021-2022) to 39.3% post-implementation (2023-2024), with statistical significance (P = 0.003).[1][2] The mean time to first injury increased from 142.8 days to 160.9 days (P < 0.001).[1][2] No significant increase in elbow injuries was noted.[1][2] The study compared data on total pitches, innings pitched, number of batters pitched, and musculoskeletal injuries among the top 200 pitchers.[2] The findings suggest that the pitch clock did not increase the short-term risk of injury.[1][2] More research is needed to assess long-term effects.[1][2]
