NHS England officially defined 'corridor care' for the first time as patients spending at least 45 minutes in a clinically inappropriate area of an emergency department or general and acute ward. This definition is part of the new measures to solve the crisis in the health sector. The NHS has written to all chief executives and chairs of trusts, urging them to take formal ownership of the problem. Part of the ownership is supporting the eradication of corridor care across England. Patient confidence needs to be fostered outside of office hours by having NHS staff capture their experience. One definition will be used across the NHS. From May, NHS England will start publishing monthly data based on this definition.
