CBD and CBG are two non-narcotic compounds in cannabis that studies have shown may help reverse fatty liver disease.[1] Both compounds improved blood sugar control and reduced harmful lipids associated with fatty liver disease.[1] CBD works by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and activating anti-inflammatory receptors, thereby protecting liver cells.[1] A 2023 study showed that CBD reduced the activation of hepatic stellate cells (scar-forming cells in the liver) by 65% and in some cases even partially reversed the scarring.[1] CBD also reduces oxidative stress and stimulates the removal of damaged liver cells.[2] The researchers say these findings point to a promising new herbal approach to treating metabolic liver disorders.[1] Despite these positive results, dietary modification, limiting alcohol consumption and improving lifestyle remain the most important factors in managing fatty liver.[3]
