According to a survey by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, only 38% of Americans believe that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., HHS Secretary of Health, provides credible information about public health.[1][2][3] Confidence in Dr. Mehmet Oz, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, is slightly higher at 42%, up from 33% in April 2025 and 32% in February 2025.[1][2][3] On the contrary, 54% of respondents had confidence in the information of the former director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci during his tenure.[1][2][3] Trust in career scientists at federal health agencies is higher—67%—than in their supervisors, where it is just 43%.[1] Survey Shows Decline in Trust in CDC and FDA; confidence in the FDA fell to 62% from 74% in February 2024.[1][3] Americans prefer the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to the CDC - when disagreeing on the hepatitis B vaccine for newborns, 42% accept them, compared to 11% for the CDC.[2] The survey was conducted in February on a sample of 1,650 American adults.[5]
