Professor Hadiza Shehu Galadanci is the first female consultant, gynecologist and professor of medicine in the Kano region of Nigeria. She serves as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Aminu Teaching Hospital Kano and is the Founding Director of the African Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy at Bayero University Kano. It focuses on strengthening the health of mothers, especially on the prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). It states that although we can prevent and treat PPH, of the approximately 14 million women worldwide who experience it each year, 70,000 die, most in low- and middle-income countries. She led studies such as E-Motive to reduce deaths from postpartum haemorrhage and IVON to prevent anemia in pregnant women in Nigeria. She has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has collaborated with WHO, USAID, UNFPA and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In 2024, she was included in TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in Health as Innovator of the Year.
