This article presents the protocol of a randomized controlled trial on the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of asthenospermia in obese men. Asthenospermia is a common cause of male infertility, and its incidence in obese patients increases in connection with changes in dietary habits. The study includes 72 patients randomly divided 1:1 into a real acupuncture group and a sham acupuncture group. Treatment is given twice a week for 12 weeks, followed by 12 weeks of follow-up. The primary indicator is progressive sperm motility (PR). Secondary endpoints include PR plus nonprogressive sperm motility, sperm concentration, sperm volume, sperm morphology, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, and percent body fat. The study also evaluates adverse events during acupuncture. It is expected to provide evidence of the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for improving fertility in these patients.
