Teenagers naturally fall asleep later, which causes chronic sleep deprivation when school starts early. Researchers studied a Swiss high school that had introduced flexible start times. Students overwhelmingly decided to start school later. As a result, they slept 45 minutes longer every school night. The extra sleep led to fewer sleep problems. Their well-being and academic performance improved.
