In 2023, chronic respiratory diseases will affect 569.2 million people worldwide and cause 4.2 million deaths[3]. The Global Burden of Disease study analyzed the burden of these diseases in the period from 1990 to 2023 and also took into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic[3]. Chronic respiratory diseases mainly include COPD with 212.3 million cases and asthma with 262.4 million cases[1]. Hlavnými rizikovými faktormi pre tieto ochorenia sú fajčenie, znečistenie vzduchu a pracovné rizika[1]. Although the total number of cases has increased by 39.8% since 1990, age-standardized mortality rates have decreased by 41.7%[1]. Chronic respiratory diseases are the third most common cause of death in the world[1].
