MPs have rejected a House of Lords call to ban under-16s from using social media. The vote took place on March 9 by a ratio of 307 to 173 against the proposed amendment to the Children's Health Act and the Education Act. This Act strengthens the final Child Protection Act and the Child Safety Act. It includes measures such as child welfare, regulation of social worker agencies, free breakfast clubs in schools and a register of out-of-school children. In January, the House of Lords backed an amendment to the bill banning social media for under-16s by 261 to 150, a 64% vote in favour. However, age restrictions may be introduced as part of a separate government consultation on restricting children's use of social media.
