The article examines burnout syndrome (BS), stress and depression in medical students in Latin America. The pre-pandemic prevalence of BS in these countries ranges from 4.3% to 43.90%.[2] Research shows a growing trend where higher years of study are accompanied by higher levels of burnout.[1][2] After the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico, the prevalence of BS reached 69.87%, especially emotional exhaustion in women (71% at moderate and high levels), along with high rates of chronic diseases, depression and anxiety.[1] BS is associated with high burden and systemic challenges in medical education.[1] No successful intervention programs have been identified in the region, but adaptation to their socioeconomic context is recommended.[1] Changes in the academic and organizational environment are needed to alleviate these problems.[1][2]
