The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that 38 health facilities in Iran and Lebanon were attacked or forced to close during the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran[1][2]. The attacks began on February 28, 2026, when the US and Israel launched missile attacks on Iran that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and killed at least 165 people[1]. In Iran, 1,300 people were killed and 9,000 injured, while over 1,400 were reported injured in Lebanon[1]. Israel subsequently launched new attacks on Lebanon targeting Hezbollah, which in return fired rockets at Israel[1]. In Iran, four health workers were killed and another 25 were injured in attacks on medical facilities[2]. The WHO pointed out that according to international humanitarian law, medical facilities must be protected and must not be attacked[1].
