British-Palestinian plastic surgeon Ghassan Abu-Sitta was cleared of charges of supporting terrorism and the banned Hamas organization by an independent tribunal of medical practitioners in January. The tribunal ruled that a 2018 Arabic newspaper article and two Twitter transcripts (now X) did not prove guilt. The General Medical Council (GMC) appealed to the High Court against this acquittal. Úrad pre profesionálne štandardy pre zdravotnú a sociálnu starostlivosť (PSA) sa teraz pripojil k tomuto odvolaciemu úsiliu. The PSA said it considered the original decision insufficient to protect the public. Both regulators will argue in the Supreme Court that Abu-Sitta should not have been acquitted.[5]
