The new 2025 Hamlet movie is directed by Aneil Karia and stars Riz Ahmed. The plot is moved to contemporary London in the environment of a British-South Asian family and a capitalist real estate empire. Hamlet returns from the funeral of his father, who was murdered by his uncle Claudius, who married his mother and took over the family business. The ghost of the father challenges Hamlet for revenge, which drives him to rage, confusion and madness. The adaptation preserves Shakespeare's original tale of betrayal, revenge and madness, but omits the character of Horatio and redistributes his role to Ophelia and Laertes. The film focuses on themes of sadness, corruption, helplessness and injustice in the modern world. It will be released in February 2026.[1][2][3][4]
