The textbooks were wrong because human hair does not grow as it was once believed. New research shows that hair is not pushed out from the roots. Instead, moving cells inside the hair follicle pull the hair upward like a microscopic motor. Advanced 3D imaging has revealed the spiral movement of these cells that generates the necessary force. This finding could change the way hair loss is studied. Scientists can thus design new treatments based on this mechanism.
