Doctors in the US who support the Trump regime raise the question of the response of the medical profession to fascist regimes. The Trump administration's check scores high on the 14 characteristics of fascism. One characteristic is a tendency to promote hostility towards higher education and academia, where professors are censored or arrested. In Nazi Germany, according to the book Doctors under Hitler by Michal Kater, doctors were Nazised more thoroughly and earlier than other professions and did more for the regime than their non-professional peers. After the war, German doctors claimed that only some rogue doctors had caused the atrocities. American psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton claimed the opposite.
