Patients taking GLP-1 or GLP-1/GIP agonists had a significant residual gastric volume (RGV) if they did not hold the medication before upper endoscopy. This situation was true unless they kept a clean liquid diet the day before the procedure. The OCULUS randomized clinical trial confirmed this finding. The study showed that without prior discontinuation of medication and a special diet, a significant amount of content remains in the stomach. Patients should stop taking medications before endoscopy. The results highlight the risk of gastric retention with these drugs.
