Hospices in England are facing a growing financial crisis which is threatening the provision of palliative and end-of-life care, MPs have warned. A report by the Public Accounts Committee said providers in the sector had been forced to cut staff or close beds due to significant financial deficits. The MPs drew attention to the so-called "cliff edge" funding which, without immediate government intervention, would lead to further reductions in services. The report warned that unless new funding is injected into the hospice sector, providers will be forced to further reduce the scope of care. The issue of financial sustainability affects adult hospices across England and affects a number of providers in the UK.
