A study in patients with type 2 diabetes showed that liver stiffness measurement (LSM) can be a useful tool to detect liver fibrosis. This method could be included in the routine management of diabetic patients as part of their regular screening. Research suggests that patients with higher stiffness of the liver have an increased risk of death from any cause. Measuring liver stiffness could thus help doctors identify patients at higher risk and allow them to take preventive measures. This cohort study contributed to the understanding of the association between liver status and overall mortality in diabetic patients. The results indicate the potential of LSM as a screening tool in clinical practice.
