The MIND diet is an eating regimen combining elements of the Mediterranean diet and the DASH diet, which is associated with slower structural changes in the brain.[1][2] According to research, people who follow this diet most strictly have brains biologically younger by up to 7.5 years compared to those who follow it less strictly.[1] The MIND diet emphasizes green leafy vegetables, berries, whole grains, fish, and olive oil, while avoiding red and processed meat, butter, full-fat cheese, white bread, and fried foods.[1][2] Studies suggest that strict adherence to this diet reduces the risk of memory problems by 4 to 6 percent and may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease by more than 53 percent.[3][7] The diet is beneficial not only for older people, but also for younger people - middle-aged women with obesity who consistently followed the MIND diet for three months experienced significant improvements in working memory and attention.[1] This diet was specifically designed to combat cognitive decline and promote both brain and heart health.[3]
