Stopping popular weight loss injections like Ozempic or Mounjaro results in weight regain.[1][2] An Oxford University study published in the British Medical Journal showed that after people stop taking these drugs, they regain most of the lost weight in less than two years.[1][2][5] During treatment, patients lost an average of almost 15 kilograms, but after discontinuation they gained an average of 10 kilograms within a year.[2] Most return to their original weight in about 18 to 24 months, with newer drugs such as semaglutide and tirsepatide in about 1.5 years.[2][5] Improvements in health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol or glycemic index deteriorate in an average of 1.4 years.[2][5] After the end of the treatment, patients gain an average of almost half a kilogram per month.[5] About half of patients complete treatment within one year.[2] Previous clinical studies suggested rapid weight gain, but real-world data confirms this trend.[1]
