The CDC and FDA are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to supplements containing moringa leaf powder that affected 97 people in 32 US states[2]. Of the 67 people interviewed, 59 (88%) confirmed consuming products containing moringa leaf powder, specifically Live it Up Super Greens supplements and Why Not Natural capsules[2]. The outbreak has caused 26 hospitalizations and no deaths have been reported so far[2]. The first cases appeared as early as August 2025, and the last case was reported on February 27, 2026[2]. At the same time, the FDA is investigating a separate, unrelated outbreak caused by Rosabella brand moringa powder capsules that affected 7 people in 7 states with 3 hospitalizations[1]. Salmonella bacteria detected in both epidemics are resistant to commonly used antibiotics, which complicates the treatment of infected persons[1][2]. Affected products were available for sale throughout the US and internationally through online platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and Shein[1][4].
