British plastic surgeon Jonathan Peter Brooks was sentenced to life in prison for the attempted murder of his colleague Graeme Perks. The attack took place in the early hours of January 14, 2021, when Brooks broke into Perks' home wearing camouflage, armed with a crowbar, a knife, matches and gasoline canisters. Brooks doused the interior of the house with gasoline and then stabbed Perks in the abdomen, causing a life-threatening injury - Perks had only a 5% chance of survival. The motivation for the attack was that Perks was testifying against Brooks in a disciplinary proceeding that could have resulted in him losing his job. The court described the attack as premeditated and ruthless. Brooks was found guilty in June 2021 and received a minimum sentence of 22 years behind bars. In addition to attempted murder, he was also convicted of attempted arson with intent to endanger life and carrying a sword.
