The shingles vaccine reduced major heart events by 46% and death by 66% within one year in people at high risk. The vaccine can prevent complications related to clots that lead to heart attacks and strokes. Its effect is comparable to the benefits of quitting smoking. A study at the IDWeek conference included more than 174,000 adults over the age of 50 and showed a 50% lower risk of vascular dementia, a 25% lower risk of heart attack or stroke, and a lower overall risk of premature death among those vaccinated. Further analyzes confirmed a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular events by 16% in people over 50 and by 18% in younger patients. The vaccine reduces the risk of shingles, which causes inflammation and impairs blood clotting. The CDC recommends two doses starting at age 50 without a chickenpox test. Vaccination is well tolerated.[1][2][3]
