Stelios Papadopoulos is considered the "godfather" of biotechnology thanks to his long career as a scientist, investment banker and corporate consultant. In an interview on "The BioCentury Show," he said the current market in biotech is not bearish, but volatile, with exceptional science never seen before. It recently saw an unprecedented haul of more than $3 billion in 24 hours, and the stock has recovered from its lows this year. He warned that drug prices cannot be raised as before and the industry must accept this reality. He highlighted China's rapid rise in innovation thanks to the return of scientists, rapid clinical trials and an 1980s-like work ethic. He predicted that in ten years, China will be the main innovator, along with South Korea and Europe. He identified expertise in the domain as the only competitive advantage.
