The patient's perspective is important in health care decision-making along with clinical and economic evidence. However, reports of patient and participant participation (PPI) in randomized controlled trials are still insufficient. After the COVID-19 pandemic, research on respiratory viruses was de-prioritized in some countries. The public feels that it has already "survived" the pandemic. Accordingly, there are few topics left for discussion. Respiratory virus research needs its own PPIE.
