TTHealthWatch is a weekly podcast from Texas Tech in which Elizabeth Tracey of Johns Hopkins Medicine and Rick Lange, MD, of Texas Tech Health El Paso discuss cutting-edge medical topics.[1] The podcast focuses on glaucoma controls in primary care.[1] A study by Frediani et al. analyzed data from a large California population of adults aged 18-40 years and found low referral yield for glaucoma, high predictive value of a three-variable model (age, intraocular pressure, cup-disc ratio), and racial differences in loss to follow-up.[1] The 2013 US Prevention Task Force and 2022 Update reported a lack of evidence for the benefits and harms of primary glaucoma screening in adults.[1] The podcast also spotlights colorectal cancer screening using wastewater.[1] In the updated 2026 guidelines, the American Academy of Ophthalmology expanded glaucoma risk factors to include type 2 diabetes, myopia, and family history.[2] There are an estimated 1.08 million blind and 7.08 million visually impaired in the US as of 2017/2019.[2]
