In Spain, violence against doctors reached a record level in 2025 with 879 recorded aggressions, the highest annual figure since records began in 2010. The figures were published by the Organización Médica Colegial (OMC), which represents all medical faculties in the country. Spain's health ministry said 18,563 assaults against all healthcare workers were reported in the national health system in 2025, an 8.7% increase on 2024. Doctors who experienced violence described to The BMJ the lasting impact on their well-being, with some taking sick leave for fear of encountering the attacker again. The OMC warned against chronic violence in the environment of state healthcare. The total number of reported incidents against doctors in the last 16 years has reached almost 9,000.
