A cross-sectional study of pediatric hospitals in the US showed a sharp increase in hospitalizations of young people with eating disorders immediately after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] During the pandemic, there was a significant increase in hospitalizations by 7.2% per month (95% CI, 4.8%–9.7%) through April 2021.[1] This was followed by a 3.6% monthly decline (95% CI, −6.0% to −1.1%) from May 2021 through December 2021.[1] Hospitalizations peaked at 208 in April 2021 and averaged 181 per month in the last 8 months of 2021.[1] Hospitalizations are thus returning to pre-pandemic levels.[1] Other studies confirm similar increases, such as 188% in one center or a doubling in Michigan.[3][4]
