Neurological complications are a significant problem in neonatal patients supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and contribute to increased morbidity[3]. Standardized neurological monitoring during ECMO enables early recognition and treatment of neurological damage[3]. Long-term neurodevelopmental follow-up after ECMO is important for early detection of developmental delays and initiation of necessary interventions[3]. The 2025 Chinese Expert Consensus is a protocol for systematic review and expert recommendations based on the GRADE methodology[3]. This consensus has been registered on the International Practice Recommendations Register Platform (IPGRP) under the number PREPARE-2024CN1051[3]. The goal is to reduce the occurrence of neurological complications, improve the prognosis and quality of life of affected children[3]. The final recommendations will be disseminated through publications in peer-reviewed journals, conferences and educational workshops[3].
